Ira Tatelbaum has more than thirty
years of entrepreneurial, business development and consulting experience. He was raised in a family business, and opened
his first venture as a menswear retailer in 1975. Ira went on to found businesses in China and the former
Soviet Union and spent fifteen years as a member of the Board of Directors of a $100 million public company.
At the forefront of trends in each of his endeavors, he pioneered discounting of fair traded national brand menswear products
in the United States and was among the first Americans to import consumer goods from China and export
product to the former Soviet Union. In pursuit of these ventures, he has traveled widely in the U.S., Europe,
and Asia, and he continues his activities and relationships in China and Russia.
As an outside director of his family’s publicly traded company, Mr. Tatelbaum was an integral part of a team that oversaw
the company’s transition from family to professional management. In 1991 Mr. Tatelbaum was cited in articles in The Wall Street Journal, The Boston Globe
and The Boston Herald for pioneering work done by an American company in
the former Soviet Union. He formed the first 100% foreign owned company in the former Soviet Union,
and his company was one of only eight chosen to distribute product there for a Fortune 100 American company. Four years later
he sold his equity in the company to fellow stockholders.
